Mouth sores caused by the Herpes simplex virus are extremely contagious, you get them from kissing, sharing eating utensils, drinking glasses, even a towel. Mouth herpes sores crop up about 20 days after exposure, as a series of red painful bumps on lips, nose or chin. Symptoms last about 2 weeks, a week of great pain and oozing, then a week where a scab forms and finally drops off. Fever Blisters or canker sores occur after a fever or illness, sometimes triggered by a food allergy or nutrient dificiencies. They also be caused by hormone imbalance. Canker sores occur most often in women, generally because of hormone imbalance during their menstral cycle.
